We camped on "Side A", which though shady, was a bit hilly. It didn't bother us, but I can see where it would be tough to level for some. The park was almost empty when we arrived, and filled up for the weekend, but still didn't seem too crowded. This is a super park, with plenty to do. Rangers are very nice and personable. My kids loved the pool, which is Olympic-sized, though while we were there, entire kid's camps and daycares would show up to swim! Maybe that could be spaced out a little better. Bathrooms were clean, with a few frogs wandering into the shower, adding to the camping atmosphere. Walking and fishing along the James can't be beat. We'll be back.
Our 1st time here and it was great. We camped in the older section, to take advantage of the more wooded sites, and were allowed to pick our site and just call the office to let them know which we picked. Camp Host greeted us before we even unpacked! New playground. Pool was wonderful, though really busy on the weekend. Lifeguards were very attentive. The bath houses were in good repair, but could have really used a good spraying down with bleach. We had a great time, though and we'll be back.
Back camping at our favorite local campground. Nice big site at B28 - the bath house was new and very nice. As always the beach was great with our site being near the dune crossover. The checkin process was VERY LONG this time, the staff did not seem very together or organized. It was an annoying way to start, but once we got through that, everything was great. We'll be back.
We camped in the 2000 loop, which was kind of far away from everything, but we were by the Group Camping area that has a short cut bridge to the Meadows Trading Post, which helped. Sand pad for the tent was approx 34 x 20, with an additional 15 x 10 "L" with the charcoal grill. Lots to do, tennis, pool (kind of showing it's age)basketball, pony and trail rides and much more. Leave at least one day to just play around the campground. This campground is HUGE. Bring your bikes. We did get a golf cart the last few days for something new, but they are $50 a day. Internal buses were slow, and external were either very GOOD or very BAD. There seemed to be no middle ground. Everything is very clean and immaculate as only Disney can make it. We loved it and we'll be back!
Nice family campground and playground. BIG shaded sites. Water is communal. Nice helpful staff. That being said, the bath houses need some work, as this is a city run campground, but they could be at least cleaned more than once a day if it is busy, and it was this weekend. Make sure you take TP, you might need it! Laundry room sink was stopped up and never addressed. Quiet time was not enforced, as the Ranger just drove around with his windows up, and then you never saw him after 11 pm. Party Central. Dogs were everywhere and were tied to trees and even in the bath houses! We probably won't be back.
One of the best kept secrets in Virginia Beach! HUGE campsites. Bath houses are cleaned daily and while we were there, checked several times a day. Park Rangers made regular patrols. Short hike over the dunes to the beach. Shower at the end of the dune crossover to wash off the sand. One play ground, so you have to drive over there. Camp store has everything you could need. Lots of interpretive programs and even had a nightly family movie. We'll be back!
We normally are tent campers, but rented one of the campground's travel trailers for Thanksgiving. After an Extremely rocky start - no propane, so no heat, key broke in lock, and other things, the campground staff rallied and went above and beyond to make things right. The restrooms in the rear of the park are old and unheated, but the ones in the front are new and look great. Ditto on the playground, the one in front is new, and the one in the rear is old. All and all, it was a good base for Washington DC, if you want something a little more inexpensive than College Park, which we did. We will be back.
This campground has A LOT of seasonals, some quite grouchy. Very small sites, our tent was right up next to one of their rental travel trailers and I could hear the person in it snore! They also let a group of half drunk guys set up a tent site around 11 pm 2 sites down from us. I don't have to say how loud they were. On the good side, the beach is great and the bathrooms were clean.
Lovely campground. We had our tent right on the small lake, so my husband just walked out the door to fish. HUGE tent sites. Everything was very clean, including the bath house. Nice playground, which the kids enjoyed. Game room a little old, but fine. The pool had not opened yet, but looked good. The only thing that prevents a 10, when we got rained out, and I had to dry out everything in the laundry, the dryer was quite expensive for the time received.
